The Challenge & Project Scope
The project required workers to operate suspended over tidal waters on the Upper Thames, where recreational rowing traffic is high and bridge spans are narrow. Strict Health and Safety Executive (HSE) rules mandated a water rescue craft on station during all working shifts.
The MMS Solution & Deployed Assets
We deployed a commercial-grade Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) equipped with rescue pathways, recovery ladders, first aid kits, and dual VHF radios. Our MCA-certified skippers patrolled the exclusion zone, directing recreational rowers away from the active overhead worksite while maintaining constant communication with the scaffolding project manager on the bridge deck.
Project Outcome & Verification
Our team provided over 240 hours of standby safety cover with zero rescue interventions. The scaffolding was erected safely, and river traffic was managed without incident.
